Anita Ekberg

Marianne Ekberg (Swedish pronunciation (listen) 29 September 1931 - 11 January
2015) was an Swedish actress popular for her gorgeous physique and attractive
appearance. Her fame was heightened by her role in the role of Sylvia in the
Federico Fellini film La Dolce Vita (1960). Ekberg was born in Sweden on 29
September 1931. She was the sixth child of eight. In her teens, Anita worked as
a fashion model. Ekberg participated in the Miss Malmo competition in 1950
following the advice of her mother. It resulted in her winning the Miss Sweden
contest. Although she was not fluent in English, she traveled to the United
States to compete to get the Miss Universe title for 1951. While it was a
non-formal pageant but the official pageant was formalized in 1952. Even though
Ekberg didn't win the Miss Universe pageant, as one of the six finalists she
did get the title of a starlet with Universal Studios. Ekberg was a Universal
starletin which she learned acting, dancing, and drama. She appeared briefly in
The Mississippi Gambler (1953), Abbott and Costello go to Mars (1953), Take Me
to Town (1953) and The Golden Blade (53).
